Bio

Rafael Godoy (Rafa) was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1980. Grandson of Colombian composer Rafael Godoy Lozano, he beag studying classical guitar and Venezuelan music with Antonio Zapata at the age of 12. As a teenager Rafa played in several rock-pop bands, however, he never lost his passion for Venezuelan and Latin American traditional music.

At the age of 19 Rafa moved to Sydney, Australia, where he studied classical guitar, composition, performance and electronic music with Dr. Trevor Pearce, Ken Burns and Shannon O'Neil.

In 2005 he released Nostalgia, a CD containing folk music from Venezuela and in August 2006 ::Dialogo:: was successfully released around the world through MGM - an eclectic mixture of electronic and acoustic music.

Rafa has performed his music since 2005 in venues and bars across Latin America, USA and Australia.

In August 2009, Rafa released a homage album to his grandfather, Colombian composer Rafael Godoy Lozano through MGM. Rafael Godoy Lozano (1907–1973) was a well-known Colombian composer who has inspired generations of musicians through his soulful lyrics and melody. No more so then his grandson Rafa Godoy who has inherited the same resonant voice and rhythmic spirit. In Homage to Rafael Godoy, Rafa has infused the lilting Colombian Bambuco rhythms of songs such as Soy Colombiano and Cafetal with the unique tones of the accordion, tiple and bouzouki to blend tradition with modernity and ensure the enduring spirit of his Grandfather’s musical legacy. A great fusion of Afro-Cuban, Venezuelan and Colombian rhythms.

Rafa Godoy is currently touring across Australia and around the world to promote his latest album.

Festivals Rafael Godoy has performed includes:
::Manly Jazz Festival 2004
::Newport Arms Festival 2004
